Success Story: Leading Systems Integrator completes ServiceNow migration for National Telecoms Operator using Precision Bridge
A Leading Systems Integrator recently leveraged the Precision Bridge migration tool to migrate over 250 million records to a new ServiceNow instance for a National Telecoms Operator in the UK.
Project Summary
This important project required the migration of over 250 million records from multiple key business areas into a single ServiceNow instance. The data migrated including Foundation Data, Incidents, Problems, Changes, Service Requests, CIs, Knowledge, Reports, PA Dashboards and more.
This large-scale migration was made more challenging by not only migrating the main records but also all the related records such as tasks, journal entries, embedded links, embedded images and file attachments.
Whilst much of the data migration requirements had been established before the project started, there were some additional requirements throughout the project making it crucial to be able to rapidly adapt the migration to incorporate these new requirements. Furthermore, the migration to production had to be completed within a 2 hour window with no downtime or service interruption for existing users. This meant that further delta migrations were required to handle the more than 10,000 new or updated incidents that were generated during the cutover period.
The Precision Bridge Data Migration Product Advantage
The Precision Bridge data migration product was used to define all the data mappings and transformations and then execute the migration fully automatically from the source to the target ServiceNow system. All the data mappings and transformations were setup using configurations with the tool with no coding or scripting required saving up to 80% of the time it would have taken to have set these up manually.
The Precision Bridge migration tool was integral in managing the sheer volume of data, allowing for multithreading and concurrent executions to achieve migration rates exceeding 10 million records per day. The complexity of CI and service relationships was managed using the Precision Bridge mappings, which enabled 100% migration accuracy for records and all the related relationships.
One of the key strengths of the Precision Bridge tool was its flexibility in handling the dynamic project requirements. Testing smaller datasets enabled quick adjustments, mitigating the time lost from re-work and ensuring that the project remained within the expected timescales. The tool also proved critical in the analysis of missing reference records (CIs, Services and Users) and identifying inconsistencies, enabling the integrator to make necessary changes to ensure 100% migration success.
The Systems Integrator team made excellent use of the Precision Bridge tool to develop mappings and run migrations. This included setting up complex selection criteria, particularly for PA dashboards and reports, creating inventive solutions such as selective skip actions, ensuring only relevant records were migrated.
Outcome:
The critical cutover period was executed smoothly and the data was migrated without issue within the defined timescales and with 100% accuracy. The delta migrations ensured that all updates due to ongoing activity over the migration period were fully reflected in the target system.
The Systems Integrator commented:
“We were delighted to have been able to leverage Precision Bridge for this critical project. Precision Bridge resources and our teams worked hand in hand to ensure this successful project and we look forward to the next collaboration”
